Home Office

Products to help make your home office more productive.

In your home, the items you surround yourself with are a means to survival. They give you energy, they help to set your goals, they make your life easier or (hopefully not) more stressful. A cluttered space in any environment is hard to work in. No one wants to cook in a messy kitchen! Getting ready in the morning is easier in a clean bathroom… well this applies also to your home office. I am fortunate to have an allocated space for my home office and one that I plan and tailor as my business needs grow. Here are a few things that I love for making my space productive and organized:

Keeping your work space clean will help make your day more productive…

a simple desk

I love white desks for the the sole purpose that they always feels clean. The sunporch, where I have set up shop, is full of large, bright, white antique casement windows and so a white desk is where I felt most comfortable. After some research I settled on the CB2 Runway Desk in white hi-gloss lacquer. This desk is very streamline and elegant and looks good at all angles. The size and budget were also key for me and the profile of this desk was a good accent to all my existing ikea storage pieces! It was delivered fast, easy to put together, and has held up well under piles of papers, tile samples, drawings and so on… (it is toddler approved too!).

a great lamp

Lighting is so important when it comes to working, especially in design. Before we bought the new house, I had ripped out a page in a magazine of these awesome lights from Rejuventation lamps and stuck it in my stock pile of ideas for things I love. When we moved, before I even had the desks, I bought two of these… and I still love them.

organization

Not all jobs require that you have storage at home but being a designer, it is a necessity. We have samples upon samples of all shapes and sizes that we need at the ready so storage is the top priority in organization. I have worked with these Ikea shelves for years and they are so handy! If you are looking for toy storage on a budget, I think these would be a helpful in this department as well.

Additional organization you may want to consider is desk (and drawer) organization. For these I usually head over to the Container Store for some great options. I usually stick with white plastic desk top accessories because they get a ton of use and are more durable. And I love these acrylic drawer organizers with the little gold trim!

decorative accents

I haven’t gotten to the stage where I’m ready to order a few of these but here are some other items I will be adding to my home office. I love this Visual Comfort Alberto fixture in plaster white, this Dash & Albert melange grey indoor/outdoor rug, the best smelling candle ever from Demi-Lune, more storage shelves to house all of my over flowing samples, and great stationery to send your friends or clients little hand written notes! These beautifully branded note cards are hand letter pressed and designed by Tiny Bones Press.

I hope you enjoyed a little tour through my office and this has inspired you to make your space at home a little happier. Keeping your work space clean and organized will help your day be more productive.

Xoxo
